HEY THERE!

My name's Alex Melton, and I'm a creative jack-of-all-trades with a decade of experience under my belt. I graduated from UCLA in 2013 and embarked on a career as a graphic designer, but I've always had a passion for DIY projects and making things with my own two hands.

I believe the creative process is an exciting adventure, a journey where ideas flourish, and imagination comes alive. Each stage, from the initial idea to the final touches, is done in partnership, ensuring we get the best possible outcomes. When challenges arise, I embrace them as opportunities to grow, and most often, they lead to excellent results.

In 2019, I went on a year-long journey around the world on a program called Remote Year – Polaris. The program is designed for professionals who can work remotely and want to travel while they do so. Experiencing new cities and cultures every month taught me to take inspiration from the world around me, specifically all the little beauties I would encounter on my journey. I still use this in my creative practice today.

After years of working as a graphic designer, I discovered my love for spatial and experience design. I wanted to create experiences that would bring people together through honesty, empathy, and curiosity. So, in 2023, I took the leap and enrolled in a Master's Degree program in Narrative Environments at Central Saint Martins.

On my off days – I enjoy cooking meals that bring my friends and family together, listening to a great audiobook, and getting outdoors.

I'm super excited about this new adventure in spatial design and can't wait to bring people together through curiosity and play.

EXTRACURRICULARS

Bruin Ad Team 2011-2013

I was the art and design director for the UCLA Bruin Ad Team, which is a completely student run organization that competes yearly in the National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC). NSAC is run by the American Advertising Federation, who in partnership with a different company each year, give the objective to create a new, compelling, and completely integrated advertising campaign that reaches the audiances that the client/partnering company has asked us to target. In the 2011-2012 season our team placed first in the regional competition with Nissan as our client.

HOBBIES AND INTEREST

I love art and design in all aspects and especially enjoy work that has a clean and beautiful aesthetic with a little quirk. I am also a huge DIY-er and love crafting, baking, cooking, and pretty much anything else that I can make with my hands. I was a competitive swimmer for many years so I love to swim, and of course I enjoy always enjoy kicking off my shoes and dancing the night away. I have a minor addiction to British TV and a serious itch for travel.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Jack Boy Productions | Graphic Design 5/14 - present

In house graphic designer and production artist for largest corporate client , KeVIta. Work directly with marketing team to produce sales sheets, point of sale materials, field marketing materials, create branded apparel, design social media post and complete all other graphics and production needs.

WellenKind | Freelance Graphic Design

Logo and branding design for lifestyle and apparel startup.

Veronica Springs Vacation Rentals | brand management and reception 06/13- present

At VSVR I redesigned their website and other branding materials and do other office clerical work. I also assist in preparing the rentals for guests and greet guests upon arrival.

Los Angeles Magazine | Intern 08/12 - 12/12

As an intern at Los Angeles Magazine I assisted in all aspects of the art department. I did photo manipulations and resizing, designed graphic elements for feature articles, photo research, scanning, and updated the current issues. I assisted the Art Director, Design Directors, Director of Photograph in creation of magazine layout.

Gymboree | sales associate 09/08 - 01/09

Provided customer services that included helping costumers with ensemble choices, providing costumer care and check out services. Up keep of store cleanliness, appearance , and organization both in store front and back. Restocking back and front with new merchandise. Complete store reorganization, including hanging print material, redressing mannequins, moving store shelving and tables and resetting merchandise.
